After a strong season, the U11s performed outstandingly to reach the ISFA Seven-a-side Tournament finals, by winning the South East Regional tournament, which took place in September. They went into the competition hoping to emulate past years’ successes and make it a fourth consecutive ISFA U11 victory.

The finals took place on Wednesday 10 May, in the aspirational setting of St George’s Park, home of the English national team. The boys were drawn in a group with Westbrook Hay School, St Joseph’s in the Park, The Grammar School at Leeds, Lambrook School and St George’s School, Windsor Castle. After drawing and losing their first two games, the team won their remaining three group games 3-0, 3-0 and 2-1, leaving them runners-up in the group.

A ‘Croydon derby’ in the quarter-finals saw Whitgift overcome Cumnor House 2-1 and then Altrincham Prep, in the semi-finals, by the same score line. Unfortunately, having come so far, the team were defeated by St George’s 2-0 in the final.

Mr Andrew Martin, Director of Football, commented, “I am hugely proud of the team reaching the ISFA national final and to come second is a tremendous achievement. I am certain the day would have taught the squad a great deal and will also increase their hunger to succeed in the coming years.”
