Whitgift was delighted to host the MT13 Hockey Conference at the beginning of October. Founded by ex-England international, Matt Taylor, the organisation runs high-quality training for coaches and players. This year the conference featured Dutch ex-international Teun de Nooijer, who has over 450 caps for the Netherlands, two gold and two silver Olympic medals, in addition to numerous World Cup and European National Competition medals. He was joined by Kate Richardson-Walsh OBE and Helen Richardson-Walsh MBE, both of whom have represented England and Great Britain in over 300 occasions, winning gold at the Rio 2016 Olympics Games.

A selection of U14A Whitgift hockey players were put forward for the training session, during which they were lucky enough to be coached by Taylor - who has four National League championship wins and three national cups with Cannock HC under his belt - as well as the esteemed Richardson-Walsh duo. Coaches attending the conference benefited from a seminar with De Nooijer, on his experiences as an international player and discussions on player development and management.

Dr Karl Stagno, Whitgift’s Director of Hockey, said of the event, “We have hosted this conference now for three years and, in that time, we have been graced with a truly exceptional cast of coaches and players; this year has been no different. It is fantastic to be able to give our boys exposure to such a great learning environment and to be able to welcome such iconic and fascinating personalities in the world of hockey. We hope to continue working closely with MT13 in the future.”
