Well done to the full 27-strong squad representing Whitgift Modern Pentathlon Academy at this weekend's British Biathlon Championships. With over 4000 athletes entering preliminary rounds to qualify for the British Final, it was fantastic to have so many achieve the qualifying standard. The U12's and U13's kicked off the competition on Saturday starting with the 800m run. In the U12 boys, there were an impressive number of personal bests amongst the team. Conrad Norman posted the second fastest time in his age group with 2:26.47 whilst Joe McKenzie was close behind in 4th with 2:30.73. In the pool, Rudy Kool led the way for Whitgift posting a 32.80, closely followed by Joseph Mumford, Liam Beveridge and Josh Astbury. After a top effort from the squad, the team were rewarded not only with the team title but with the Whitgift B and C teams joining on the podium for a Whitgift takeover! The U13 team also battled hard in the run in cold conditions to post some best ever performances. The team were led home by Alex Lewis and Martin Van Domselaar both crossing the line in 5.40 for their 1600m race. In the pool, the team were pretty evenly matched with Sebastian Sparshott, Nico Lane and Martin Van Domselaar posting a 1.10. Our two teams finished up 4th and 6th in a very tough field. In the U12 girl's event, Gabrielle Holland was our sole representative. She put in an excellent performance across the disciplines to finish 5th individual in a field of 35 in her age group.

On day two of the Championships, 11 more represented Whitgift in U14, U15, U16 & U17 age groups. Whitgift's U14 boys Christopher Finch and Peter Aznar-Klein both improved on their performances in the preliminary round to finish 18th and 30th respectively. The U15 boys won the team title convincingly with solid performances and personal bests in the run and swim. Rowan Fuss was Whitgift's highest placed in 9th place. George Simpson was Whitgift's sole qualifier in the U16 boys competition. He delivered a strong performance to finish inside the top 10. The U17 boys finished high up the placings with Dario Kan picking up individual bronze, Jai Patel in 6th, and Lucas Jones in 7th, their team taking the National title. Sophia Lorke was our sole representative in the U14 girl's making improvements in both swim and run to finish 21st.
