Old Whitgiftian Callum Hudson-Odoi was delighted to realise his life-long dream of making his professional debut for Chelsea FC. The 17-year-old was substituted on in the 81st minute against Newcastle United in the fourth-round FA Cup tie.

A spate of injuries has given manager, Antonio Conte, the chance to let the Club’s youngsters have a taste of first team action. Hudson-Odoi has clearly earned his stripes after almost 10 years with the Chelsea Academy. The forward has worked hard to earn the recognition, scoring 15 goals in 18 games for the Academy this season, and winning the U17 World Cup with England, in October.

After a comfortable 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge, Callum took to Twitter to thank his family, friends and club for supporting him in making his dreams a reality.

Whitgift was thrilled to welcome back Callum for a visit, in November, when he gave a talk to a group of Upper First Form footballers, before heading to Edridge Field to spectate at an U13 ISFA match with his Whitgift friends.

Whitgift’s Director of Sport, Mr Alistair Osborne, commented, “Callum is an inspirational sportsman who always played football at Whitgift with a smile on his face. We all know how hard he has worked and we are immensely proud of his achievements. To now have two Old Whitgiftians playing for Chelsea is quite remarkable.”
