Day 11 - Ollie Acton & Tristan Faillenet

Day 11 - Fixtures vs John Mcglashan

Ollie Acton - After a morning of seeing the sights of Dunedin, the outside of the Forsyth Barr Stadium a particular hit amongst the boys it was time to head across the road to the 3G rugby pitch. After a poor warm up 12 o’clock came and it was time to kick off. The poor warm up was evident throughout the first half. Whilst whitgift scored a number of points the half ended with a John McGlashen try as a result of a missed tackled in the midfield. The second half continued in similar fashion, however the Gift did show signs of some very good rugby, a charging Pierre running a try in from the 22. The full time whistle blew with a 37-15 win to Whitgift. Our winning form continued along with our poor discipline, however, hoped remained high to make it 4/5 at South Otago with some very good rugby being played, particular improvement being made in the line-out.

Tristan Faillenet -

We turned up to the first team pitch of John McGlashan, exhausted from the prodigious hill climb on the now second steepest road in the world, as webbie informed us all

Despite the absence of a haka from the opposition, the kiwis came out of the blocks strong and put up a good fight. After a hard initial battle against the ref we managed to split the defence and score the first points after a long 15 minutes. The first half was filled with an amalgam of errors. Nonetheless, the whitgift score steadily increased. Some standout plays included Ade’s try from a favourable bounce following a Jake’s box kick.

The second half kicked off and an immediate improvement was seen from the whitgift side. The subs came on and changed the dynamic of the attack with the fresher legs including the normal hooker, Vajner playing out of position yet not seeming to bother him as he executed the saying « multiple touches of the ball » as the ball was exchanged from joe to George hitting a great line who then gave it back to joe for the try. We also saw Big P plodded on in the second half making his first appearance in the first team and even setting Tommy Berger for his try in the corner. Another good performance and we go on to Soutj Otago!
